BARN QUILTS PROJECT
National magazine Country came up to do a story on our Barn Quilts of Oconto County project on June 23, 2014 and wanted to see the entire process...from painting the blocks at New View Industries (they worked alongside the clients there and pitched in with painting!) to the installation by the Oconto Electric Cooperative onto the barn. We were told that they do this type of story once a year, and several of their main staff were here for the day including editor Robin Hoffman, senior editor John Burlingham, art director Scott Schiller, and copy editor Joanne Weintraub.
The barn quilt was installed at the Konitzer farm in Abrams. This barn is the tallest barn in Oconto County...the OEC linemen Ron Friedman and John Havemeier measured it on this day and it's 50 feet tall. John happens to be a grandson-in-law of one of the Delzer brothers. Cookie Konitzer bought the farm from the Delzers, and both brothers Art and Irvin (now in their 90's) were on-hand to provide some history on the farm to the Country magazine staff.
About 50 family members were there to watch the install, along with the clients from New View Industries who painted the quilt block. The family provided a great spread of food and refreshments for everyone. It was exciting for all involved with the BQOOC project !
